Study on sexual health in breast cancer survivors

12 August 2022

This study I felt was particularly important, and caught my attention as I now don’t feel so alone in battling this important subject.

As a Specialist Breast surgeon I have been able to address this area  both physically and psychologically. This is due to the fact, that whilst removing the breast cancer I am able to recreate the breast either by performing a reduction mammoplasty and lift after a lumpectomy, or a complete reconstruction with sparing of the nipple- areolar complex following a full mastectomy.  My patients have describe improved body image with associated positive mental response following surgery. On this subject, a quote from one of my patients following her oncoplastic surgery – “breast cancer is the best thing that has happened to me. The relationship between my husband and I is the best it in the last 15 years and I’m currently cancer free!.”
